Virgil, our Kingsway Boxing team, and I are excited as we welcome Fall! We have some exciting news on the horizon and can’t wait to share it with you soon. A big thank you to everyone who has already secured their spots in our Fall Programs—our Junior/Youth and High Performance programs are filling up fast!

We’re proud to announce partnerships with several top fitness and martial arts professionals. This impressive lineup includes Phaedra Kennedy, who will be launching our newest strength and mobility program geared toward runners, and my Sifu, the highly experienced martial artist Makoto Kabayama, who leads our exclusive seasonal self-defence workshops.

Please help us as we schedule new classes for the fall and winter. Virgil is launching a Friday 9:15 am boxing class, and Shireen is bringing back the 12:00 pm lunch classes on Fridays at our Bloor location. I’ll be starting Thursday Technical Classes at Jutland at 6:15 pm, and we’re also restarting our Junior (7+) Program every Tuesday at 5:15 pm. Group runs 3 times per week include a pre-run warm up, post run stretching, and group discussions with local practitioners such as physiotherapists, chiropractors and nutritionist

After more than a decade of hosting the highly anticipated Fight To End Cancer black-tie gala—an event that has garnered global support and raised nearly 3 million dollars for The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre—we’re excited to introduce a new event that promises to expand our reach and elevate our impact.

The spotlight which was once exclusive to corporate fighters will now shine on our amateur boxing community through our latest fight series initiative. Team Kingsway Boxing Packs a Punch and Brings Home Gold at the Quebec Open!

The Quebec Open proved to be another impactful tournament for Team KBC, with seven registered athletes bringing home a total of six medals. The team’s impressive haul included two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes, showcasing their dedication and skill. This remarkable achievement highlights the hard work and commitment of each member, as they faced tough competition and rose to the occasion with determination and resilience.

Coach Vasyl, also known as “V,” is a seasoned fitness trainer with a diverse athletic background. As a former football athlete at both the high school and city levels, he has a strong foundation in sports and physical fitness. His martial arts journey includes extensive training in Karate, Kickboxing, Boxing, and MMA, highlighting his versatility and dedication.

Vasyl leads high-energy boxing and kickboxing sessions and specializes in personalized training programs. He is a Boxing Ontario Coach, certified Personal Trainer (Canadian Fitness Professionals Inc.), and ISSA Nutritionist, with a strong emphasis on safety, technique, and client satisfaction. Vasyl’s comprehensive experience makes him a valuable addition to Kingsway Boxing Gym, where he aims to inspire and develop athletes in their boxing journey.

Use this technique when you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or having trouble sleeping. It’s a powerful way to ground yourself and reduce anxiety by focusing on your senses.

Find 5 Things You Can See

Look around and identify five things you can see. This can be anything in your surroundings, like a picture on the wall, the light from a lamp, or the color of your bedspread.

Listen for 4 Things You Can Hear

Close your eyes if it helps, and focus on four things you can hear. This could be the sound of your heartbeat, the hum of an appliance, distant traffic, or the wind outside.

Group meets Tuesday @ 7pm for talk and run, group runs on Wednesday @ 6:30 pm and Saturday 9am include pre and post warm up and stretch.

Goal race will be the 5k Santa Shuffle on Saturday December 7th

She teaches Health Promotion at Sheridan College with Kinesiology degree students.


The Kingsway Boxing Family has been back to training since June. As we build routines, return to work and kids go back to school, it’s important to continue keeping our community safe! Please be aware of any possible symptoms and contact us if you’re unsure.

Welcome to the Learn to Run Program! I am looking forward to beginning to run together tomorrow Tuesday July 16th at 7pm at Kingsway Boxing Club 3046 Bloor St W Toronto ON. Map You can reach me by email pat.else@sympatico.ca and phone /text (416) 816- 2438.

We will meet inside the Studio close to 7. The Studio has washrooms and places to change if you need to change into running gear. Please come ready to run. It is going to be another rainy day so bring a hat and be prepared to build your character🙂 . We will not run if there is any thunder or lightening and we will plan to run slowly as it is also supposed to be hot.

In our first class I will over what you can expect over the next 14 weeks, we will do some pre and post stretching and start some strengthening exercises. I have attached the running curriculum. We will start with time rather than distance as you find your own pace. We will have time tomorrow to discuss questions and the upcoming program. See you tomorrow!

Jennifer Huggins

Fight Team Coach | High Performance Trainer

Jennifer Huggins is the owner and senior coach of the Kingsway Boxing Club in Toronto. As an International Boxing referee and judge, Jennifer understands the sport of boxing inside and out. She has extensive experience working within boxing’s international, national and provincial sport organizations. During her time with Boxing Ontario, Jennifer served as an assistant coach with Ontario’s provincial team, Ontario’s Provincial Chief Official, and president of Boxing Ontario’s Board of Directors. She is currently on the Sport and Competition Committee with World Boxing, appointed as a member of the Advisory Council to the Minister of Sport in Ontario. She’s also active as an Official with Boxing Canada and continues to with the organization in other capacities. This includes sitting on Boxing Canada’s Inter-Provincial Territorial Committee, the Canadian R&J Commission, Gender Equity Advisory Group and the Gold Medal Profile Advisory Group. Jennifer is also the founder and executive director of the Fight to End Cancer, which has raised more than $3 million for cancer research, with proceeds going directly to support the research and patient care at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

“Maintaining a clear perspective and honouring fairness is always key. As a boxing official, I play the role of both referee and judge. I pride myself on being fair in and outside of the ring.”


Shireen Fabing

Boxing Coach | Personal Trainer

Shireen’s journey as a competitive boxer began the moment she laced up her very first pair of boxing gloves. Remaining dedicated to the sport, she thrives as an amateur boxer while also spreading her passion beyond the ring to the wider community. Shireen actively engages with both recreational enthusiasts and competitive athletes, tirelessly advocating for the myriad benefits boxing offers.

“When I found boxing (or boxing found me), for a while I thought ‘why didn’t I find this sport earlier in life’, but as I began to progress, that thought is now a distant memory. I believe we found each other at the right time. Boxing is on the rise. Women’s boxing is on the rise and I’m living it now.


Jo-Anne Sheffield

High Performance Instructor | Personal Trainer

Jo-Anne is a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor who brings a commitment to health and fitness, combined with enthusiasm and experience to create fun, high energy and athletic classes. An avid runner and marathoner Jo-Anne believes cross training is an important part of developing overall fitness and her classes are designed to strengthen muscles, maintain a strong core, increase cardiovascular output and promote flexibility.

Jo-Anne’s motto is “Just keep moving” and while she has run many races she is particularly proud of her two Boston marathon finishes.

Personal Trainer | Wellness Coach |Communications and Marketing

Crystal is a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor and holistic lifestyle coach. Her experience and thirst for knowledge has brought her to being a life coach and healer who has now combined her 20 years of knowledge to marrying mindfulness to exercise. She loves striking a balance of mobility work with lifting, dancing and has fun doing free movement as ways to keep her body agile and strong.

Sophia initially took up boxing with the goal of acquiring a new skill and improving her fitness levels. However, from the moment she stepped into the KBC community, she discovered a profound love for both the sport and its supportive environment. Recognizing her passion and dedication, Sophia is determined to excel in boxing and deepen her involvement with the community. Despite her ongoing university studies, she eagerly anticipates coaching during the summers and whenever her schedule permits.

Olivia Bates

Fitness Guru and HIIT Coach

Born and raised in the GTA, Olivia has been boxing since the age of 10! She loves how the sport challenges her, not only physically, but mentally as well.

Over the years, being a coach has brought her so much joy. Olivia loves seeing the kids improve day by day. It’s a huge motivator to be able to provide them with a safe, enjoyable space where they can learn both technique and increase fitness. The community at KBC really pushes her to be her best for herself and the kids and she loves every bit of it!

Jacqueline Walters boasts an impressive record as a 4-time Canadian Kickboxing Champion in the 60kg, K1 Division, having proudly represented Canada at the World Championships in both 2009 and 2011. With a diverse background that includes training and competing across continents such as Thailand, Europe, Africa, North and South America, Jacqueline now holds the esteemed title of Canada’s sole A-Level, internationally-sanctioned Kickboxing Ring Referee sanctioned by the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO). Additionally, she serves as a Chief Official with WAKO Canada and is a respected Kickboxing coach and instructor. Leveraging her expertise further, Jacqueline is also an ACE-certified Personal Trainer, offering tailored fitness programs both on an individual basis and in group settings.

Jacqueline’s love of the sport, and fitness in general is what inspires her to help others stay healthy through recreational and/or competitive sport.


Katerina Muchnik

Yoga Instructor

Katerina’s approach to Yoga focuses on using poses to get into your body (not the other way around), while focusing on how the asana feel, rather than what they look like.

Katerina is a certified Yoga teacher with a formal education in Life Sciences, UofT. She is well aware of how each body is perfectly imperfect and uses this combination to focus on proper form and alignment.

Shyanne McPherson

Shyanne has always been intrigued by the world of fitness. With over 10 years’ experience as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, she credits the fitness industry for paving her life’s journey. Shyanne lives and breathes fitness and says her passion lies far beyond simple exercise. Fitness is about your mind, body and soul which is exactly what she will challenge.

Power4Teens has allowed Shyanne’s two passions to come together, working with youth and workin’ their butts!


Patricia Else

Yoga Instructor

Patricia Else has a Master’s of Science in Community Health Nursing and a background in public health. She has been a health focused consultant since 2013, a certified personal trainer since 2014 and a certified yoga teacher since 2018.

She works with organizations to build capacity and with individuals and groups to build strength and improve their health. She teaches Health Promotion at Sheridan College with Kinesiology degree students.

In keeping with her belief in fitness for all abilities and ages, she is an older adult fitness specialist and has completed Heart Wise training.

Patricia is a clinic instructor for the Running Room and has worked with hundreds of runners through the 5k, 10k, 10 miler and half marathon clinics.


SYLVIA PERRY

Yoga Instructor

Sylvia has 20 years experience as a talented yoga instructor, who is nurturing, insightful, intuitive with a great sense of humour. She is always meticulously prepared for her classes which are tailored for the students who attend. The students benefit from individual support and attention grounded in patience and focus.

Her classes are fun, lighthearted with lots of variety. She focusses on alignment, provides careful and safety conscious instruction with a firm foundation in traditional yoga.

Sylvia has taught yoga one on one in private sessions and small classes and large class of over 60 participants. She is trained in Ashtanga and Power Yoga and a certified E-RYT 200 YACEP to teach Hatha Yoga and traditional Indian Hot Yoga.

She has brought together her 20 years of experience to create a mindful approach to healing the body so it can move and function to support life.

Crystal keeps her mind and body in good health with mobility work, lifting, dancing and has somatic practices. She believes that our mental and emotional health is crucial to over all joy, happiness and our physical health. WHAT TO BRING

  • Bring a water bottle and a small towel. We have plenty of weights, bands and mats that are thoroughly sanitized when each class has ended. No need to bring your own equipment. I will have everything set up for you, so you don’t have to grab anything.
  • Please try to bring the least amount of clothing and gear as possible. There will be cubbies available for your bags and coats that will be sanitized after every class.
  • Please use Green P Lots on the North East side of Royal York Rd. and Bloor St. W.

As we build routines, it’s important to continue keeping our community safe! Please be aware of any possible symptoms and contact us if you’re unsure.

Our staff, trainers and coaches will be following strict protocols limiting contact and ensuring the safety of our clients. In addition to cleaning in between clients and classes, a deep clean and sanitization of all locations are conducted at the beginning and end of each day.

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! We are almost done with the very first round of this program. It has been amazing seeing all of your faces bright and early in the morning. I am happy to hear that you will be continuing with the program!

What is fascial stretch?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) began in the NFL and later reached other sports such as NHL and rugby. It is a pain-free assisted stretch system that assesses and improves restrictions in the body helping you with performance, injury prevention and pain reduction. We are super excited to have Melissa introduce FST to our KBC members.

Who should consider FST?

  • Dealing with chronic back pain: Chronic back pain is often a result of muscle tightness, joint stiffness and lack of mobility. FST can put an end to your pain by restoring mobility and function.
  • Regularly train: Recovery is key to training and FST improves blood flow to tired muscles resulting in less soreness and quick recovery!
  • Active lifestyle: FST can help you better your running pace, life heavier weights, increase flexibility and shoot up your endurance.
  • Dealing with an old injury: Your therapist will help you with your range of motion allowing your body to slowly get rid of unwanted compensations.

What are the benefits of stretching?
