[POST EVENT RELEASE] Kingsway Boxers Dominate the Weekend Tournament!

This past weekend was one to remember as three of our very own Kingsway Boxing Club athletes stepped into the ring and left everything they had behind the ropes.
The tournament was a true test of endurance, skill, and mental strength — the kind that demands every ounce of focus from start to finish.
Representing KBC with pride, Andrea Young, Quentin Snowden, and Kwasi Amoateng didn’t just show up to compete — they showed up to make a statement. Across multiple bouts, each of them faced fierce opponents, adapting, digging deep, and pushing past fatigue to rise to the challenge. Every round told a story of resilience and passion; every bell rang louder with the sound of hard work paying off.
What stood out most wasn’t just their performance — it was the unity, the energy, and the unmistakable KBC spirit that radiated from the team corner. From the roar of their teammates cheering ringside to the calm guidance of our coaches between rounds, the weekend became more than a competition — it was a celebration of what makes Kingsway Boxing truly special: community, dedication, and heart.
These athletes reminded us that champions aren’t built overnight. They’re built in the early mornings and late nights of training, in every sparring session, every sweat-soaked round, and every moment they choose to show up and keep fighting.
FIGHTER FEATURES

🥇 Andrea Young – 1st Place
Perhaps the most inspiring story of the weekend belongs to Andrea Young, whose meteoric rise continues to captivate everyone at Kingsway Boxing. Andrea first walked through Kingsway’s doors just over a year ago — and in that time, her dedication has propelled her from a novice boxer to Ontario’s #1 Champion in her division.
Earlier this year, Andrea competed in her debut tournament at the prestigious Brampton Cup, where she captured her first gold medal. She followed up that success with another championship victory during Team Kingsway’s summer trip to Quebec, further cementing her growing reputation in the amateur boxing circuit.
Given her outstanding results and skill development, Kingsway’s coaching staff petitioned Boxing Ontario’s High Performance Committee to grant Andrea “Open Class” status — typically reserved for athletes with 11 or more bouts. At the time, Andrea had only 7 bouts, making her the least experienced competitor in a division filled with boxers boasting 11, 12, 18, and even 24 fights. The request was approved, allowing her to enter the Provincials against some of the most seasoned athletes in the province.
Andrea received a bye in the opening round and faced the reigning National Champion in her semifinal bout — a fight that demanded every ounce of preparation and focus. She rose to the occasion, executing her game plan flawlessly to secure a decisive victory and capture the attention of everyone in attendance.
In the finals, Andrea faced yet another highly experienced opponent with 24 bouts. Once again, she showcased her composure, strategy, and power — ultimately earning the gold medal and the title of Provincial Champion.
Now crowned Ontario’s best in her category, Andrea “Golden Girl” Young has her sights set on the National Championships this November. Her remarkable journey from newcomer to champion is a testament to her relentless work ethic, her trust in the process, and the dedicated support of her Kingsway coaches.
“Provincials was an all-around rewarding experience. High competition, and great team spirit was the theme of the weekend in my eyes. This tournament had top performers and very experienced fighters which challenged me so that I can continue to develop. My performances are not only about me, but also about my coaches, family, community members, friends, and everyone who’s been with me along the way. I didn’t fight just for myself but for all of us. Because of that, winning was just the cherry on top. I am happy with the results, but now that we’ve shown what we can do, the real work begins.”

🥉 Quentin Snowden – 3rd Place
Quentin impressed throughout the tournament with his tenacity and mental toughness. Facing multiple challenging bouts, he demonstrated a perfect blend of strength, patience, and ring intelligence, earning a third-place finish among an incredibly competitive field.
Quentin delivered an impressive performance, narrowly losing a close decision in his semifinal bout. In boxing, when matches come down to the smallest of margins — sometimes just an extra combination — it’s a reminder that every moment counts.
Despite the result, Quentin showcased tremendous composure and grit inside the ring. Every fight presents a learning opportunity, and this experience will only serve to strengthen his technique, confidence, and strategic approach moving forward. His coaches and teammates remain confident that Quentin has all the tools to continue growing into a powerful contender in future competitions.

🥉 Kwasi Amoateng – 3rd Place
Kwasi brought power, precision, and passion into every fight he entered. Battling through several demanding matchups, he earned a well-deserved third-place finish and now stands in strong contention for a wildcard spot at Nationals.
Kwasi displayed incredible endurance and heart throughout the tournament, competing three times and earning victories in his first two bouts. His performances were strong and technically sound, leading him to a semifinal match against the reigning National Champion.
Though Kwasi started cautiously in the opening round, he rallied back with intensity in the second and delivered an explosive third round. While the final decision didn’t go his way, the fight was razor-close — and a testament to his unwavering drive and growth as a boxer.
The Kingsway coaching team will review the footage to identify opportunities for continued improvement, but one thing is certain: Kwasi’s progress has been remarkable. His consistency, effort, and results have positioned him as a serious prospect, and the team remains hopeful for a wildcard entry to Nationals.
COACHES REFLECTIONS

Virgil Barrow | Kingsway Boxing Club Head Coach, Boxing Ontario Provincial Coaching Team
“KBC’s first-ever Fight Night was nothing short of incredible. With over 400 guests packed into the gym, the energy was dope as our athletes stepped into the spotlight and put on a show in their home ring.
Our goal has always been to match our fighters against tough, talented opponents who push them to grow and prepare them for even bigger challenges ahead.
A huge thank you to all the gyms that showed up prepared—with boxers on weight, paperwork in order, and ready to compete. Shout-out to Stockyards Boxing, Siberia Boxing, King of the Ring, Blue Collar Boxing, Bodies by Dex, Tommies Boxing, Boomerz, Posteraro, and Delgado/Battle Arts for making the night such a success.
KBC Fight Night Vol. 2 is officially set for Saturday, July 12. See you there!“
Jennifer Huggins | Kingsway Boxing Club Owner, World Boxing International Official
“Traveling the world through this incredible sport has been a dream come true—but it’s the investment in grassroots development that truly fuels my passion to keep giving back. After 20 years in business and fighting our own battles—from the 2008 recession to the lasting impacts of the pandemic, a major move, and now the opening of our nearly 8,000 square foot facility—this fight night was more than just an event. It was a celebration of resilience.
Our motto, ‘Defeat Is Not An Option,’ has never rung more true. Sitting back and watching the dedication of our team—through every trial and triumph—was a reminder of how far we’ve come. Our coaches and athletes have grown stronger with every challenge. And as we continue to fight on the international stage to keep boxing in the Olympics, it’s moments like these that highlight just how critical it is to protect the dreams and opportunities this sport provides.”
As we look back on this incredible weekend, it’s impossible not to reflect on the journeys that led Andrea, Quentin, and Kwasi to this moment. Each of them began at different stages in their boxing paths, but they’ve all grown under the guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support of our coaching team — Head Coach Virgil Barrow and Owner/Coach Jennifer Huggins.
From early mornings in the gym to late nights refining technique, Virgil and Jennifer have been there every step of the way — pushing, encouraging, and believing in their athletes. Their leadership has not only shaped skilled fighters but has cultivated a community built on respect, perseverance, and unity.
Together, these athletes and coaches embody what Kingsway Boxing stands for: discipline, passion, and family. Every punch thrown, every challenge faced, and every victory earned represents years of shared effort and commitment.
This weekend’s tournament wasn’t just about medals or titles — it was about celebrating growth, resilience, and the strength of the KBC family. We’re endlessly proud of Andrea, Quentin, and Kwasi for their outstanding performances and for representing our club with such heart and integrity.
Congratulations, team — your KBC family is behind you every step of the way on the road to Nationals!
