Gloves On, Game On: 22 Future Champs Rise at Kingsway’s Summer Youth Camp
Posted on

Kingsway Boxing Club’s Youth Development Camp delivered another unforgettable week of energy, learning, and growth!
This Summer Break, from July 14–18, the Kingsway Boxing Youth Development Camp welcomed a full roster of future champions. Eager participants of all skill levels laced up their gloves and dove into the fundamentals of Olympic-style boxing.
Led by our team of Boxing Ontario–Certified Coaches and supported by competitive athletes and mentors, campers were immersed in an empowering, disciplined, and supportive environment. Through a structured program that emphasized technique, fitness, respect, and teamwork, young boxers learned what it truly means to train like a champion.
Coach Nina Guzina of Kingsway Physio, led the team through an intensive strength and conditioning day, specifically tailored for boxing and cross-training. Her expertise helped the participants build the physical endurance and high performance strength needed for success in and outside of the ring.

The Kingsway Boxing Club summer camp was more than just a place to throw punches. It was a hub of diverse training and personal development. This year’s camp brought together young athletes from all backgrounds, fostering a culture of respect, discipline, and growth. One of the highlights was the integration of cross-training elements designed to build well-rounded fighters both inside and outside the ring. Among the standout sessions was a special workshop led by renowned martial artist Jerry Oei, who guided the campers through practical, real-life self-defense tactics. With his extensive background and dynamic teaching style, Jerry equipped the young boxers with tools to stay safe and confident in everyday situations, adding a powerful layer to their overall development.

The camp also featured an inspiring visit and training session from professional boxer Amanda Galle. Amanda Galle embarked on her boxing journey at the age of 16, rapidly distinguishing herself in the amateur arena. Her impressive accolades include being a three-time Canadian National Champion and a four-time Ringside World Boxing Champion. She also represented Team Canada in 2014 and 2018. Notably, she participated in the Pan-Am qualifiers for the Rio 2016 Olympics, narrowly missing qualification by just one spot.
Transitioning to the professional circuit, Amanda has maintained an unblemished record. As of December 2024, she stands at 11 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw. In December 2023, she made history by becoming the first Canadian female to win the IBO Bantamweight World Title. She successfully defended that title a year later against Niorkis Carreno. Now signed with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), led by Jake Paul, Amanda is set to take the next big step in her career with a high-profile fight scheduled for October.
Beyond her athletic ability, Amanda is deeply committed to philanthropic endeavours, notably supporting the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation through the Fight to End Cancer initiative, honouring her late mother, Nicolina.

Returning to every camp is our Yoga Guru and mindset coach, Katerina Muchnik, whose presence has become a cornerstone of the Kingsway summer experience. Katerina brings a calming energy and a powerful toolkit of breath work, mindfulness, and visualization techniques that help the kids build resilience both in and out of the ring. Her sessions focus on breaking through performance-related barriers, managing nerves, and developing mental clarity—skills that translate far beyond boxing. More than just a coach, Katerina creates a safe space for young athletes to process challenges, build confidence, and develop a stronger connection between mind and body. Her impact is lasting, and her work continues to shape the way our campers approach competition, stress, and everyday life.
For some, this camp was just the beginning, as several participants are now moving on to join our competitive program. Others will continue refining their skills in our youth technical program. No matter their path, each of these young athletes leaves the camp with a strong foundation in boxing and a renewed sense of confidence.
The Kingsway Boxing Youth Development Camp was designed for youth of all genders and fitness levels, providing a safe, effective, and exciting environment to learn, improve, or test their skills as Olympic-style boxers. Whether they were recreational sports enthusiasts or aspiring competitive boxers, this camp offered an unparalleled opportunity to take their boxing skills to the next level.
We’re incredibly proud of the progress these young athletes have made and can’t wait to see where their boxing journeys take them next. The future looks bright for these future champs!
The camp was run by international Olympic-level official Jennifer Huggins and Head Coach Virgil Barrow, who earlier this year led Team Ontario to the Youth Nationals in Calgary. Together, this dynamic duo provided a safe and inspiring environment for the youth to explore a sport they both love.
Development camp participants were presented with their official certificates by the team of coaches following the 5-day intensive camp.
Special shout out to the dedicated individuals who made our recent camp a resounding success:

- Cam Porter dedicated the week to coaching at camp, sharing his athleticism and boxing skills through hands-on demonstrations all week long.

- Jessica Zado: Provided invaluable support throughout the week, contributing to coaching, photography, and even sparring sessions.
- Lincoln Boljkovac made his first appearance at our camp this year, and his support throughout the week was nothing short of invaluable. His energy, commitment, and willingness to jump in wherever needed made a lasting impression on both the team and the campers.
- Acacia Fabing: At just 13 years old, Acacia, a competitive boxer, assisted the coaching team, ensuring all participants felt safe and supported in the ring.
- Competitive Team Members: A special thank you to Will Bardsley (heading to Canada Cup), Kate Pratt, Andrea Young, and Sebastian Brunner, who devoted their entire Friday to assist with the camp’s finale simulation bouts.
