Two contenders, Saeed Haje-saeed and Noel Fridmann, made their debut at the nationals with their sights set on national titles, while Will Bardsley represented Kingsway Boxing at the Canada Cup U23 tournament. This event marked a significant achievement for Team KBC.
The 2024 Canada Cup and Junior Youth National Championships concluded after five action-packed days! The tournament featured over 200 bouts across the U23 and Junior/Youth National rings. We witnessed the crowning of our inaugural Canada Cup Champions and celebrated the rising stars who claimed junior and youth national titles, including our own Saeed Haje-Saeed, who brought home a bronze medal in the Men’s Youth 54 kg Weight division. Noel Fridmann finished fourth in the country in the Junior C 60 kg weight division. Team KBC also secured a bronze medal with a strong performance by William Bardsley in the Men’s U23 57kg weight division.
Virgil Barrow, Co-Owner of Kingsway Boxing, dedicated the week to working with the Boxing Ontario Provincial Coaching team. Together with Julia DiMarcantonio and Danial Khan, they guided nearly 50 boxers from the province, securing 29 medals, including 17 national titles. Another notable achievement for the team was Jennifer Huggins’ role as an assistant supervisor and evaluator for the Canada Cup U23 ring, while also managing logistics leading up to the tournament.
“It was an honour to be selected as one of the provincial team coaches, alongside Coach Julia and Coach Daniel. The dream team of coaches, they are both excellent high-level coaches, with a ton of experience. With over 40 athletes competing against the best in the country, all vying for the number one spot in Canada, we are incredibly proud of Team Ontario for their accomplishments. Ontario’s future looks bright, with 17 national titles. “

Kingsway Boxing has been expanding its presence in the competitive boxing world over the past few years. Although this was the first time KBC had representation at the nationals, a team of 12 boxers recently represented KBC at the Brampton Cup tournament, all demonstrating true promise in the sport. Not only did they achieve their personal bests, but they also represented the sport and Kingsway with excellence against some of the top international and national boxers.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served as an assistant supervisor and evaluator, alongside my mentor, Roland Labbe. Being part of the inaugural Boxing Canada Cup in Calgary was an honour, and I look forward to continuing my support for the growth of officiating and boxing in Canada!
A huge congratulations to Virgil Barrow, Danial Khan, and Julia DiMarc for leading the Boxing Ontario team to an impressive 29 medals and crowning 17 national champions. I’m incredibly proud of our boxers from Kingsway Boxing Club who represented at the Nationals and Calgary Cup. I can’t wait to see where their journey will take them next.”

Their dedication and hard work have brought us to this moment, and there’s no doubt that they will make us proud.
Coach Virgil reflected on the significance of the fighters’ accomplishments and shared his thoughts on what they meant to him personally:
“While Saeed and Noel both aimed for the National title, their work ethic and consistent willingness to improve are a coach’s dream. Saeed is #1 in Ontario and 3rd in Canada. His first nationals saw him get his first win. His second bout of the tournament was against Quebec who he lost to but fought a Gutsy fight till the final bell. Noel is #2 in ontario and #4 in Canada. He lost a razor close bout, he will get better and aim for that number #1 spot next year. I’m proud of them for their achievements.“
With the support of the community and the dedication of its athletes and coaching team, notably TJ Mosher and Geoff Britnell, Kingsway Boxing is poised to make a lasting impact at the upcoming provincials and future international events. As they continue to strive for excellence, Team Kingsway Boxing remains committed to representing the sport and its values with integrity and passion.
